In June of 2009, renovations were completed on the new 125-seat capacity JPMorgan Chase Technology Center at Syracuse University, located in Lyman Hall. The Technology Center is staffed with JPMorgan Chase employees from a variety of technology functions with a special focus on information risk and testing. The new center is intended to be a test site for new technology and workspace designs for a global technology organization. Innovative technology features include a wireless environment for desktops and phones; use of virtual desktop technology, enabling remote support and minimal cabling. State-of-the-art collaborative and individual workspaces are designed with the preferences of the new generation of technology workforce in mind.
By co-locating the Technology Center on the Syracuse University campus, the opportunity for close collaboration is substantially enhanced. Students will be able to gain work experience year-round, working part-time at the Technology Center during the academic year as well as during the summer. Secure collaboration space was designed specifically for SU faculty and students to conduct research alongside JPMorgan Chase practitioners. Thanks to a generous donation of state-of-the-art TelePresence videoconferencing by Cisco Systems, practitioners, faculty and students at the on-campus technology center can collaborate with JPMorgan Chase technologists across the globe.
From a JPMorgan Chase perspective, the Center creates a focal point for the development of Centers of Excellence with recognized depth of knowledge and technical expertise in specific technology domains. Practitioners, faculty and students can easily work together in a variety of ways, including internships, work-study programs, co-op arrangements, research assistantships, conducting applied research projects and faculty consultancies. It is expected that collaboration activity at the technology center will provide teaching and learning opportunities while simultaneously driving technology innovations in a real-world "lab" environment that allows for testing and refining those innovations.
Over time, it is anticipated that the JPMorgan Chase Technology Center at Syracuse University will house multiple centers of technology excellence. The first center of excellence will pursue emerging information security technologies and foster research and development innovation in this domain, focusing on three primary goals:
